Worship

As Christians the principal act we are called to participate in is the worship of God:  Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  Our principal act of worship is the celebration of Holy Eucharist, or thanksgiving.  The Eucharist is also frequently called Holy Communion or The Lord’s Supper.  In the Eucharist we give thanks to God for our creation, preservation, and redemption.  Chiefly, we give thanks to God for the gift of His Son, Jesus, upon the cross.  Gifts of bread and wine are offered to God who blesses them transforming them into the Body and Blood of Jesus.  We believe that in receiving Holy Communion we receive God’s grace which strengthens our union with Christ and one another.  This is a foretaste of heavenly banquet which is our nourishment in eternal life.  All baptized Christians in good standing with their own faith communities are welcome to receive Holy Communion at St. Matthew’s and all are invited to come and receive God’s blessing.  If you feel lead to receive Holy Communion but are not yet baptized please speak to a member of our clergy about receiving the sacrament of Holy Baptism.

In addition to our Sunday celebration of Holy Eucharist we offer a weekly service of Holy Eucharist followed by healing prayers.  This service is a largely lay lead contemporary service offered on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m.  There are other worship opportunities through out the year on special feast days.  Look to our website for information about these opportunities to worship God.
