The Rev. Robert L. Brown

Father Rob Brown is a native of Spartanburg and actually grew up at Saint Matthew’s.  He has a BA in History from the University of South Carolina in Spartanburg, 1984, and an MDiv from The School of Theology, The University of the South,1995.  Before attending seminary he was a Congressional Aide, working in Washington and the Fourth District of South Carolina for Congresswoman Elizabeth J. Patterson.  Rob has served churches in Chapin, SC, and Spartanburg, coming to Saint Matthew’s in 2003 after having been away for over twenty years.   Actively involved in Diocesan ministry, he has served as President of the Standing Committee, Dean of the Piedmont Convocation, and taught Homiletics for the Diocesan School for Ministry. A published author, his work can be found in Outdoor Adventures in the Upcountry and In Morgan’s Shadow.  He is married to Sandra McGee Brown, an operating room nurse, and they have two children in college, Zach and Becca.  His passions are faith, family, writing, and the outdoors. The Rev. Charles J. Smith, Asst. Rector

Fr. Charles is the Assistant Rector at St. Matthew’s and a recent graduate from Virginia Theological Seminary.  He brings a catholic spirituality and deep love of the sacraments.  He has specific responsibilities for the Episcopal Youth Community (EYC) and Canterbury College Ministries.  A native of rural Virginia he feels right at home here in Spartanburg.  He graduated from Hampden-Sydney College in 2005 and spent 3 years working as a claims adjustor for GEICO prior to entering seminary.  Fr. Mrs. Beth Boyd

Beth is the long time parish administrator at St. Matthew’s.  Beth is usually in the office Monday through Thursday from 9-1.  You can reach her by phoning the church office or e-mail her.

Mrs. Shawna Bynum

Shawna is the head of St. Matthew’s Preschool.  Since beginning her tenure with the preschool in 2005.  Under her leadership the preschool earned its South Carolina Department of Health and Enviornmental Control certification.  If you have any questions about the preschool, or would like to receive more information about it, please phone the church office or e-mail Shawna.

Mrs. Donna Simpson

Donna is the organist/choirmaster at St. Matthew’s.  The parish has three distinct musical groups:  Choir, Leap of Faith, and Psalm 150.  For information about any of these groups please e-mail Donna.

Mrs. Debbie Richardson
